The frozen Egyptian funds in Switzerland belonging to top officials in the former regime have reached 700 million Swiss Francs which is equivalent to 900 million USD, Assem al-Gohary, assistant Minister of Justice for anti-graft affairs, has said.
The Swiss authorities have previously notified Egypt that the total sum of the former top officials’ funds in Switzerland has reached 410 million Swiss Francs, al-Gohary said in a statement reported by the Middle East News Agency (MENA).
The Egyptian authorities later filed requests for judicial assistance that included bank accounts and information about a number of former regime figures, he added. On that basis, new sums were added to these funds.
The committee in charge of recovering the money smuggled abroad is working intensively in cooperation with a number of countries in order to locate the bank accounts of former officials in these countries and recover their funds.
The anti-graft body announced in June that it will refer Mubarak and his family to criminal court again after it receives the reports of the justice ministry’s experts on their fortunes.
