Scores of political activists staged a protest outside the High Court on Saturday, demanding the release of labor lawyer and leader of the Revolutionary Socialists movement, Haitham Mohammadein, who was arrested on Thursday.

The protesters chanted for Mohammadein’s freedom and said that they would not allow the suppression of freedoms, according to the Revolutionary Socialists’ official page on Facebook.

The prominent labor lawyer was arrested at an army checkpoint near the Suez Gates as he was on his way to meet workers in the canal city.

Human rights activists issued a statement on Friday condemning Mohammadein’s arrest and describing it as a “targeting of the revolutionary youth.”
