Republican Guard chief urges demonstrators to keep protests peaceful

Egypt's Republican Guard Chief on Friday urged protesters rallied at the presidential palace in Cairo to keep their protests peaceful and avoid all actions that may disrupt public safety.

In a statement the Middle East News Agency reported, the Republican Guard Chief denounced the attempts to barge into the palace and climb over its walls.

He also condemned hurling petrol bombs at the palace.

Clashes erupted earlier between security forces and protesters who rallied in front of the palace to take part in the “Friday of Salvation” demonstrations.

Security forces retaliated by firing water cannons at them protesters to disperse them.
