Al-Azhar Grand Imam Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb praised the constituent assembly’s role in drafting a new constitution that represents all spectra of the Egyptian society and realises the principles of freedom and social justice in addition to achieving the renaissance of the post-revolution Egypt.

Following an Iftar the Imam held for members of the assembly and some national powers, al-Tayeb expressed his hope that the new constitution achieves the aspirations of Egyptians after it is put to a public referendum.

Al-Tayeb emphasized al-Azhar’s keenness on achieving national consensus between Egyptians with all their intellectual, religious, political and cultural differences, the Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported.
