CAIRO, Sept 12 (Aswat Masriya) - Egypt's Former Prime Minister Atef Ebeid, who held office under ousted President Mubarak, passed away on Friday aged 82, his lawyer Gamal Saeed said.
Ebeid served as Egypt's prime minister from 1999 to 2004.
Ebeid and former Minister of Agriculture Youssef Wali were sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2012 after they were convicted in the case of selling “Al-Bayadeyah Island” natural reserve in Luxor, squandering more than 700 million pounds of public funds.
The criminal aspect of the cases under which Ebeid was prosecuted will accordingly be dropped, Saeed told Aswat Masriya, adding that the financial aspect will not be dropped and is to be passed on to the heirs.
The funeral will proceed Friday afternoon from a neighbouring mosque to Ebeid's residence in Abdelmonein Riad street in Mohandeseen.
