Hundreds of students rallied demanding “student rights” outside the administration of Alexandria University on Sunday.

The protesters also demanded the dismissal ofthe minister of higher education and the release of all students who were detained during protests earlier this year.

The students carried banners saying, “Authorities of oppression, can you hear? The revolution is brewing from the university.”

They chanted for a student revolution in slogans such as “The students want the minister gone,” and “Your lies make us stronger.”

“The leadership still does not understand that a revolution has happened--nothing changed on the political sphere,” said a statement they circulated.

“The students are fed up: we are either poisoned, martyred or injured and the government officials are in a high tower, indifferent.”

The statement added that it is essential to dismiss the minister, holding him responsible for the deteriorating state of universities.

The students also called for revealing the budgets of universities to them and putting a new student regulation, which they participate in its drafting.

They asked for monitoring the work of university professors and giving the students the right to review their exam papers.

The statement urged for putting an end to the suffering of students who stay at university hostels by providing them with good quality and un-expired food.

The protesters demanded the immediate release of all arrested students and a guarantee for freedom of opinion and expression to all students without compromising their right to protest and strike.

They also demanded setting a maximum limit to university fees and the textbook prices, making them optional rather than mandatory, and setting a mechanism for exempting students who cannot afford it.
