Egyptian authorities stormed the office of the Egyptian Centre for Economic and Social Rights in Central Cairo late on Wednesday, December 18, 2013.
CAIRO, Dec 19 (Aswat Masriya) Egyptian authorities stormed the headquarters of the Egyptian Centre for Economic and Social Rights in Central Cairo late on Wednesday, arresting five people, including April 6’s Mohamed Adel, the ECESR said.
All those who were arrested in the raid were released early on Thursday except for Adel who is accused of attacking police officers during last month’s trial of Ahmed Maher, the founder of April 6.
The ECESR had said that police forces stormed its office in Downtown and confiscated its computers and files which contain information related to labor rights, corruption and privatization cases.
Former presidential candidate and rights lawyer, Khaled Ali, who co-founded the ECESR, posted images of the raid on his Twitter account earlier on Thursday.
April 6 said that Adel was beaten by security forces and is being held at an unknown location.
Also arrested was activist Ahmed Douma pending investigations into the same case where three police conscripts were injured.
