CAIRO, June 2 (Aswat Masriya) An Egyptian court sentenced on Monday 25 "supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood" to three years in prison on charges of blocking traffic and rioting in August last year.

The defendants were accused of "gathering, vandalism, resisting the authorities and arson" during clashes between "residents" and "supporters of the Brotherhood", causing the death of one person and injury of 26.

The clashes erupted in Tanta, 94 km north of Cairo, following the crackdown on the Islamist protest camps that were set in support of ousted President Mohamed Mursi.

Mursi was ousted by the military in July following mass protests against his rule.
