An Egyptian officer was killed on Tuesday during a police chase of an armed gang who robs residents of the Shubra al-Khema neighborhood in the governorate of Qaliubiya.

Residents of the neighborhood had reported to Lieutenant Mohmaed Yasser Hosny that unknown armed assailants inside a vehicle were stopping passersby and robbing them.

When Hosny headed to the area with forces to investigate the reports, his vehicle was attacked with gunfire.

After an exchange of fire between the unknown attackers and the police forces, Hosny received a bullet to the neck that killed him. 

Authorities are currently searching for the attackers who abandoned the vehicle which has been reported stolen.
