An Egyptian soldier at the Rafah border crossing said on Sunday that he recogonised four of his colleagues from a circulated online video of them being held hostages, an eyewitness told Aswat Masriya.

Militants kidnapped seven security officers on Thursday, including four army conscripts and three state security officers.

A video has been posted online showing seven blindfolded men dressed in civilian clothes, who said they were the hostages.

They appealed to President Mohamed Mursi to respond to the demands of their kidnappers by freeing political detainees in Sinai in exchange for their own release.

The video was removed from YouTube earlier with the website attributing its removal to their policy on violence.

The footage did not reveal any signs of their location, it also did not show any of the kidnappers who are likely to be Islamist militants.
