Several cars were torched by the petrol bombs.

Driving two cars, the gunmen threw Molotov cocktails at the club's headquarters, Alexandria's head of security said.

A technical team was formed to identify the perpetrators, Major general Nasser al-Abd added.

In a separate incident, police and army forces arrested five Muslim Brotherhood members in Alexandria as they were hiding inside the Engineers' Club.

Most of the club's board members belong to the Brotherhood.
