The Egyptian cabinet passed on Wednesday a law, proposed by the presidency, that criminalizes disrespecting the national flag and not honoring the national anthem. 

“Insulting the national flag and not standing up in respect for the national anthem at a public place is considered a crime whose perpetrator is punished by imprisonment for a period that does not exceed six months and a fine that does not exceed 5,000 Egyptian pounds,” the draft law says, according to the state news agency.
