Egypt enhanced its security efforts on Sunday in preparation for the retrial of former President Hosni Mubarak in the case of killing protesters during the 2011 uprising that toppled him.

Also standing trial on Sunday are Mubarak's two sons, Gamal and Alaa, and his interior minister, Habib al-Adli along with six of his top aides.

The defendants are also being tried for making illicit gains and abusing their political influence for profiteering while in office.

The interior minister deployed personnel in the area surrounding the Police Academy where the defendants will be tried on Sunday and made plans to secure their transfer to the hearing.

Mubarak, who was released from prison and taken to a military hospital on Thursday, will be flown in a helicopter to the hearing.
