Egypt court cancels prison sentence against Mubarak-era tycoon

Cairo, Dec 14 (Aswat Masriya) - An Egyptian court accepted an appeal presented by Business tycoons Ahmed Ezz and Ibrahim Mohamadin and others, canceling a prison sentence issued against them in relation to charges of wasting public money.

Ibrahim Mohamedin was Industry Minister during the rule of autocratic president Hosni Mubarak, who was ousted during the January uprising in 2011.

The defendants will be retried before a new court.

Ezz was sentenced to 37 years in prison and Mohamedin was sentenced to 16 years.

Ali Abul Khair, former head of industrial development authority, was sentenced to eight years.

They were charged with profiteering from public funds by amounts up to five billion Egyptian pounds.
