Minister of Justice Adel Abdel Hamid asked Cairo's Appeal Court on Monday to assign a judge to investigate a complaint filed against presidential candidate Ahmed Shafiq and others accusing them of squandering public funds.

Head of the Appeal Court, Abdel Aziz Ibrahim, referred the complaint to Chancellor Hisham Raouf, an investigating judge.

Engineer Gamal Shaaban Moamen, former member of the managerial board of the Egyptian Airport Company, filed the complaint to the General Persecutor.

Former Civil Aviation Minister, Ahmed Shafiq, former head of the Egyptian Holding for Airports and Air Navigation, Ibrahim Manaa and former head of the Egyptian Airports Company, Magd Al-Din Refaat, were all accused of squandering public funds.

The complaint explained that an international bid to abuse the free markets in Sharm Al-Sheikh airports was agreed upon between nine international and local companies, where a Swiss company undeservedly won (having offered the least amount) - resulting in the loss of 100 million EGPs for airport companies.
