Egypt's Wasat Party, which describes itself as moderate, announced on Thursday that it plans to take part in a demonstration planned for Friday against the judicial authority.

A number of Salafi (ultraconservative) parties had called for a Friday rally by the country's highest court in protest against recent court rulings to acquit symbols of the former regime.

The Muslim Brotherhood, from which President Mohamed Mursi hails, announced on Wednesday that it will join the demonstration.

"The Wasat Party calls on Egyptians from all backgrounds to rally on Friday, April 19, to defend the Jan. 25 revolution against the anti-revolution whose features have become apparent after the wave of acquittals of symbols of the former regime and the release of all those who murdered protesters and embezzled the nation's wealth," Wasat said in a statement on Thursday.

The statement insisted that it is time for all Egyptians to unite against "forces of anti-revolution".
