Judge Ahmed Mekki resigned from his post as the Egyptian Minister of Justice on Sunday, his assistant has told Aswat Masriya.
“Since I was appointed to assume the burden of the Ministry of Justice, your opposition has pressured me to resign to be consistent with my earlier stances. Yesterday, under the banner of ‘cleansing the judiciary,’ and in light of issuing a new judiciary law, your supporters, too, demanded my resignation, to achieve their noble goals ... and thus agreement has been reached,” Mekki said in his resignation that he submitted to President Mohamed Mursi.
Mekki appealed to the president to accept his resignation.
