Cairo's Criminal Court turned down an appeal by former Information Minister Anas al-Feky on Monday against his detention for 15 days pending investigation in graft charges.
The Illicit Gains Authority had ordered the detention of Feky for 15 days pending investigation in allegations of illegal profiteering that did not correspond to his income.
Investigations showed that Feky may have acquired his wealth through the illegal abuse of his political power as he failed to explain its source.
Meanwhile, he was granted a re-trial and release when he appealed after a court had sentenced him for seven years in prison for squandering public funds belonging to state television. However, the attorney general rejected the appeal for his release.
