Nobel Laureate and prominent opposition figure Mohamed ElBaradei criticised on Sunday the verdict issued by Egypt's Constitutional court regarding the dissolution of the Shura Council (upper house of parliament).

The senior member of the country’s main opposition alliance said on his Twitter account that the ruling is an expected result for a poor understanding of law and political bulling.

The Constitutional court issued a verdict earlier today ruling against the constitutionality of the law by which the upper house of parliament was elected and the legality of the body that drafted Egypt's referendum-approved constitution, but the verdict maintained that the parliament would not be dissolved until a new council is elected.

“Egypt is in a state of collapsing and floundering,” he said.

ElBaradei added, “We must start at the beginning, through forming a genuine national consensus, in order to develop a new legal and constitutional framework that can save the state from falling apart and preserve its structure.”
