A Cairo court sentenced three people to two years in prison and a fine worth 200 Egyptian pounds over charges of involuntary manslaughter and negligence in the case of the Badrashin train crash.

A train traveling from Upper Egypt to Cairo derailed in January, killing 19 army conscripts and injuring 107.

The court found the train driver and two of his assistants guilty for the accident.

The prosecution is waiting for further details to be released in order to challenge the verdict, a source told Aswat Masriya.

Egypt has suffered numerous train crashes as successive governments fail to enforce railway safety.
