Security guard the presidential palace as the new government takes oath to office - Reuters
Egypt’s new government will be sworn in before President Mohamed Mursi on Thursday following more than a week of consultations between Prime Minister Hisham Kandil and Egypt's newly-elected Islamist president.
PM Hisham Kandil will issue a statement upon the official announcement of the new government while President Mursi will hold an Iftar (Ramadan breakfast) for the new ministers, Al-Ahram reported.
Meanwhile, the Salafi (ultraconservative) Nour Party – holder of the second biggest bloc of the dissolved parliament – announced its rejection to taking part in Kandil's administration, in protest against being offered only one ministry.
Ahmed Khalil, member of the party's high board, described the offer as a "contradiction" to promises given by the Muslim Brotherhood's political arm, the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP).
Khalil told Al-Ahram that the FJP's undermining of Nour is a “deliberate offense” insisting that the ministry of environment, as important as it is, is not fit for the status of the Salafi party.
