Speaker of the People’s Assembly, Mohamed Saad Al-Katatni, has ordered for all needs of comfort to be provided to members who have decided to participate in the sit-in.

Al-Katatni insisted, “As soon as I learned of the sit-in, I ordered for all means of comfort to be provided to the partcipating members. If a doctor is required, I can not prevent him. Fellow colleagues may express their opinion in the way they please.”

Katatni explained that the members had not initially informed him of their decision to start a sit-in or the reason behind it. He indicated that although his understanding of the sit-in is vague, he claims full responsibility for the dignity and safety of all members of the assembly.

Ziad Al-Alimi, Mohamed Shabana and Atef Meghawry, are all participating in the sit-in in protest at the Ministry of Interior’s use of violence against protesters.

MPs Basel Adel and Hamdy Al-Fakharany were prevented from entering the People’s Assembly building to join the hunger strike, Monday night.
