"We will reintroduce Islamic conquest to return Egypt's prestige and pride, with its Muslims and Christians," said presidential candidate Mohamed Mursi in a campaign rally in Old Cairo.

Mursi, who is the head of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB)'s Freedom and Justice party (FJP), added that he is a proud Muslim who wishes to rule in accordance with Islamic law which is based on Justice, rights, development and fulfilling higher living standards suitable for Egypt's citizens.

Mursi explained that the MB fielded a candidate to apply "God's law" and for Egypt to rise to fulfill people's aspirations without the guardianship of anyone. He added that it is time to return Egypt's pride and people's dignity.

FJP deputy Essam Al-Erian insisted that Mursi will win from the first round, pointing to the large crowds who attend the MB candidate's rallies as an indicator.

Various polls have shown Mursi's chances as low in comparison to other candidates; in one poll, he was shown to have only garnered 3.6% of the votes, sending him to the fifth or sixth place.

Erian insisted however that there is no room for accurate and scientific polls in Egypt and argued that most polls only reflect the perspectives of their conductors.

Meanwhile, activist Safwat Hegazi, member of the Salafi Legitimate Front for Rights and Reformation, accused the ruling military of attempting to hijack the revolution and warned that power must be handed over to a civilian administration by June 30. He threatened that otherwise the ruling military's fate is bound to resemble that of Hosni Mubarak who after his ouster was detained at a hospital and put on trial.

Hegazi insisted that the decision to support Mursi was made upon logical reasoning as he is the most qualified to lead the nation through enforcing God's law. He added that he expects for the nation to rise in all its fields if Mursi assumed power.

"He is the most capable to return Islamic caliphate and Arab states with Jerusalem as capital", Hegazi said.
