40 illegal immigrants died after an Egyptian fishing boat sank on Sunday night off al-Bardi shore at the Egyptian-Libyan borders around three kilometres into the sea, Libya’s state news agency has reported. Everyone on the boat drowned except for one person. The only survivor managed to notify the local authorities of the disaster, the news agency added. Operations to recover the bodied are still ongoing, the agency stated.
