A newspaper reported that Senator John Kerry, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, of the US Congress, said in a meeting yesterday with leaders of the "Freedom and Justice" Party at the party headquarters in Cairo, he was not surprised by the victory of the Muslim Brotherhood in the parliamentary elections. He pointed out his respect for the popular will of the Egyptians.

Al Masry Al Youm newspaper, which reported the news, said Kerry stressed that Islam "is a peaceful religion" adding that the true voices that express this religion must continue to speak out and communicate with people. He also stressed "Egypt is still on right track to democracy."

The American Senator pointed out that the great challenge facing Egypt now is economy while the country is heading towards democratic transition. He urged the Egyptian authorities to cooperate and reach an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in order to reform the economic situation.

In the same context, Mohamed Morsi, President of FJP said it was unlikely that his party would make radical changes in the Constitution and investors laws.

Morsi added that there was an agreement on the key points of the future constitution, most notably: the rights of citizenship, public freedoms, and civil rights. He said there was a need to make adjustments in Chapter V on the powers of the President of the Republic and governance in Egypt.
