CAIRO, Nov 21 (Aswat Masriya) – The prosecution ordered an investigation into the death of a detainee held at the Badrasheen Police Station on Monday, a security source at the Giza Security Directorate told Aswat Masriya.

The source claimed that the detainee, held on charges of drug dealing, fell ill and died. State newspaper Al-Ahram reported that police officers attempted to revive him but to no avail.

The prosecution ordered the body be transferred to the morgue to undergo an autopsy in order to determine the cause of death.

The detainee, Adel Wahid, was arrested with large quantities of heroin in his possession, Al-Ahram said and was scheduled for a court appearance on November 29.

A security cordon was formed around the police station after the Wahid’s family gathered on the scene.

This comes a few days after 50-year-old Magdy Makeen died inside the Amereya Police Station, allegedly as a result of torture, according to his family.

Investigations are underway into the death of Makeen as well, with his family demanding EGP 100,000 in compensation as they await the forensic report.
