Confrontations broke out between security forces and residents in Alexandria on Tuesday during an attempt to disperse a demonstration by a cement company.

The security department of Egypt's second largest city had deployed a large number of trucks by the company on Tuesday after receiving a complaint earlier that hundreds of protesters put the company under siege.

Tension escalated when forces began dispersing the demonstration where protesters hurled stones and Molotov cocktails at security forces who responded with firing teargas.

Tens of residents suffered from suffocation while one policeman received an injury to the face and was transferred to the hospital for medical attention.

One bus was destroyed and ten people were arrested in the scuffles.
