CAIRO, Sept 1 (Aswat Masriya) - Egyptian Raneem al-Welily was ranked as the top female player by the Professional Squash Association on Tuesday, becoming the first one in Egypt to acquire this position.
Welily, 26, held the second ranking for eight months and reached the top world ranking after winning three championships.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to have become the new World No.1,” Welily said following her new ranking, according to the Squash Association.
Three other Egyptian men and women who also ranked in the top 10.
Before Welily, Malaysian Nicol Ann David kept herself at top of the sport for 9 years.
