A Cairo appeals court has set August 25 for the first trial in the case of the Muslim Brotherhood leaders who are accused of inciting violence in confrontations by the group’s Cairo headquarters.

The Mokattam clashes left at least 12 people dead on June 30.

An Egyptian prosecutor referred top Brotherhood figures, including the group's spiritual guide Mohamed Badie and Khairat al-Shater, a businessman and senior member, to criminal court on Wednesday.
