Hundreds of members of the hardcore soccer fans (Ultras White Knights) and other political forces staged mass protests on Tuesday in front of Alexandria's court complex in solidarity with those arrested in the background of Sunday's clashes near the Criminal Court.

The clashes erupted on Sunday by the court during a hearing of the case of killing protesters during the 2011 uprising that toppled Hosni Mubarak, while the court decided to step down and refer the case to another.

Forty suspects have been arrested and referred to general prosecution, 31 of them were accused of destroying two police vehicles by setting them on fire, hurling stones at security forces and injuring three recruits while nine suspects have been accused of raiding the court.

The protesters raised slogans asking for the release of suspects, they chanted against the ministry of interior saying that nothing has changed since the toppling of Mubarak, reported Aswat Masriya's correspondent.

Alexandria's police undertook strict security measures while the protesters continue to chant "fight state repression... fight the thugs of the interior," promising that they will be back in thousands within two days for the anniversary of the January 25 revolution.
