CAIRO, Mar 8 (Aswat Masriya) - A chain of synchronised bomb explosions in Egypt's coastal Alexandria city left one person killed and nine injured on Sunday, medical and security sources said.

The deadly blast took place outside a major hypermarket branch. Magdi Hegazi, a top health official in Alexandria told Aswat Masriya that ambulances carried the deceased to the morgue and the five injured in this blast to hospital.

The head of Alexandria's police investigation unit Sherif Abdel Hamid has been notified about the blast and the damage that it has caused.

The two other blasts took place outside the Moharam Bek and Bab Sharq police stations.

Outside the Moharam Bek police station, the explosion left four people injured. They were taken to hospital by nearby residents. Another bomb outside the police station was dismantled.

Meanwhile, the explosion in the vicinity of the Bab Sharq police station did not cause any injuries but it did disrupt traffic when security forces cordoned off the area.

Militancy in Egypt has seen a significant rise since July 2013.

While most attacks target security forces in North Sinai, operations have been carried out elsewhere including in Cairo.

An explosion on Friday in Gharbia governorate's Mahalla city left three people dead.

Last week, a blast outside the main gate of the High Court in central Cairo left two people dead.
