CAIRO, Jan 27 (Aswat Masriya) – An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded inside the Kom Ombo court in the southern Egyptian city of Aswan on Wednesday, a security official said.
Ashraf Atris, the director of the police's civil protection unit told Aswat Masriya that the explosion left no casualties behind.
Security forces have moved to the site and cordoned off the area, prohibiting citizens from approaching the court building. .
An eyewitness told Aswat Masriya that "a huge explosion" was heard, coming from inside the building, scaring citizens in the area.
Violence erupted nationwide starting Saturday, ahead of the fourth anniversary of the January 2011 uprising which toppled the regime of former President Hosni Mubarak. The anniversary day, Sunday, was marred by violence, with at least 23 reported deaths nationwide.
Several explosions have been reported nationwide since then.
The explosion in Aswan comes hours after another blast in Qalyubia in Greater Cairo on Tuesday night, which left eight people injured, including seven security personnel.
