The Egyptian government, headed by Prime Minister Hisham Kandil, agreed in principle on Wednesday on a draft law proposed by the interior ministry whose aim is to confront crimes which threaten national security, police officers as well as public and private property.
According to its official Facebook page, the government has decided to refer the draft law to the legislation committee of the Shura Council (upper house of parliament).
The cabinet said that its decision to introduce a law of this kind is in response to the increase of attacks on policemen while on duty, as well as the increase in road violence and its harmful impact on society.
Kandil has, on an earlier occasion, pointed to the importance of a draft law to regulate police procedures with civilians.
