CAIRO, Dec 6 (Aswat Masriya) – A group of Ultras football fans broke into the Cairo International Stadium on Saturday, destroying one of the stadium’s gates, the ministry of interior said.

A security source from the ministry said almost 2000 fans entered the stadium using a truck. He added that security forces confiscated the truck and are “taking the necessary legal and security measures” to deal with the situation and prevent "rioters" from infiltrating the fans.

Egypt’s Ahly Sports Club’s football team is playing against the Ivorian Sewe Sport at the Cairo International Stadium on Saturday night. Both teams are competing for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Cup, a cup neither club has lifted before.

Should Ahly win the cup, it will be Egypt’s first sports club to do so.

The ministry of interior had earlier announced allowing fans to attend Saturday’s game.

The Egyptian Premier League games are held in the absence of any fans since over 70 football fans were killed in the Port Said Stadium following a game in February 2012.

Tensions often arise between Ultras groups and security forces securing games.
