The Strong Egypt Party denounced on Friday what it called "instituting authoritarian rule" in the constitutional declaration of President Mohamed Mursi but it expressed its support for the decision to sack the prosecutor general and retry those responsible for killing demonstrators during the January 25 revolution.

"The revolution in the first place rose up against the absolute rule of the individual. The Egyptians will not accept the reproduction of a new authoritarian rule," the party said in a statement on Facebook.

The party described the immunization of the president's decisions and laws as well as those of the Shura Council and the constitution-drafting body as "an infringement on the state of law".

The constitutional declaration of the president "should be minimalistic and by consensus and political deliberation ... not for political gains," the party's statement added.
