Prime Minister Hisham Kandil on Friday called on political powers and parties to assume their national duties and explicitly condemn riots and vandalism, urging them to keep demonstrations peaceful.

In a statement on his Facebook page, the prime minister said he discussed the security situation with Interior Minister Major General Mohamed Ibrahim.

Scores suffered suffocation in Alexandria and Suez during clashes that occurred earlier between security forces and protesters.

Violent clashes flared up in Alexandria between protesters and police forces in front of the local municipality and Alexandria Primary Court, an Aswat Masriya eyewitness reported.

Clashes also erupted in Suez as protesters and central security forces exchanged stones in front of the city council, Aswat Masriya correspondent reported.
