The Salafi Nour Party said on Sunday it will join a 50-member national committee to finalize the constitution after the party sensed that the amendments made by a committee of 10 constitutional experts threatened the constitution.

The 50-member committee, which will be formed soon, will group Egyptian figures from various backgrounds to review the amendments proposed by the ten-member committee of experts.

In a post on its Facebook page, the party said the experts' committee changed some of the constitution's features in a way that raised the objections of not only Islamist parties but of political parties generally.

The amendments made by the committee of experts may politically drag Egypt back to a time before the January 25 Revolution, where figures with power and money control the scene amidst an absence of visions and ideologies, the party said.

"This would knock down the greatest gains of the January 25 Revolution."

Interim President Adli Mansour received a draft of the proposed amendments written by the ten-member committee earlier on Sunday.

The Nour Party's participation in the 50-member committee comes to support political parties that aim to maintain the 2011 revolution's gains and to defend identity-related articles that are a true reflection of the Egyptians' identity.

The party urged everyone to cooperate in order to produce amendments that satisfy everyone.

Reaching a compromise on the constitution is essential in order to make way for a stable regime capable of solving the people's problems, the party added.

The Nour Party is the second biggest Islamist party in Egypt after the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party.
