CAIRO, Apr 5 (Aswat Masriya) - An explosive device went off at a bridge running over the uptown island of Zamalek in Cairo on Sunday, leaving one person dead and another injured, Cairo Security Director Osama Bedeir said.

The head of Cairo's civil protection unit had earlier told Aswat Masriya that an explosion took place on the May 15 Bridge and that bomb experts and civil protection staff have moved to the scene.

Bombings and shootings in Egypt have surged since July 2013, with the vast majority of them taking place in North Sinai, although other parts of the country have been hit.

Attacks in general target security forces but civilians have been affected.
