Thousands attended on Saturday the funeral of Major General Omar Suleiman, former vice president and ex-intelligence chief, held after al-Asr prayer at Aal Rashdan mosque. Defence Minister Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, PM Kamal al-Ganzouri, Grand Mufti Ali Gomaa and a number of the military council members attended the funeral.

President Mohamed Mursi sent Major General Abdel Mo’men Fouda as a delegate to attend the funeral where many chanted against the president, the Muslim Brotherhood and its General Guide Mohamed Badie, the Middle East News Agency reported.

Major General Suleiman had died last Thursday at Cleveland Hospital in the United States.

The hospital issued a statement confirming that Suleiman died due to complications of a rare disease that affects the heart, kidneys and other organs.
