Egypt's annual inflation rises to 11.8 pct in March

CAIRO, Apr 9 (Aswat Masriya) - Egypt's annual inflation rate stepped up to 11.8 percent in March, rising by 1.1 percent from last month's rate, the state's Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) said on Thursday.

Annual inflation stood at 10.7 percent in February.

The urban consumer inflation also rose to 11.5 percent this Month, after being 10.6 percent in February, CAPMAS reported.

The annual core inflation meanwhile inched up to 7.21 in March, as opposed to 7.15 in February, the central bank said in a statement on Thursday.

Inflation increased last summer after the government reduced petroleum subsidies and introduced new taxes in July 2014, hiking fuel prices by up to 78 percent. The inflation rate peaked last October, standing at 11.8 percent.
