CAIRO, Jan 1 (Aswat Masriya) – The pro-Mohamed Mursi Anti-Coup Alliance called for protests on Friday under the banner "Together, to free and purify" in preparation for the fourth anniversary of the January 25 uprising.

"Revolt; become actions rather than reactions," said the alliance in a statement. "Prepare to continue your revolution and issue its goals and achievements. Let the revolutionary wave of January 25 be strong, great and shattering."

Muslim Brotherhood supporters, mostly led by the Anti-Coup Alliance, have been calling for nationwide protests almost every Friday since the military ouster of Islamist President Mursi in July 2013, following mass protests against his rule.

Protests have nevertheless decreased with time, their impact becoming weaker by the day.

The Anti-Coup Alliance, also known as the National Coalition for Supporting Legitimacy, was formed in late June 2013 to voice its support for Mursi's "legitimate" presidency. It was made up of a group of Islamist political parties, headed by the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party and including the al-Wasat Party and the Watan Party as well as a number of public figures.

The Freedom and Justice Party was banned by a court order last August. The ruling followed listing the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organisation in December 2013.
