Egypt’s Grand Mufti Ali Gomaa called on people to rally behind whomever the ballot boxes will bring to office. He insisted that he will not advice people on who to vote for in the name of God.
The second round of Egypt’s presidential election is scheduled for June 16 – 17.
The committee announced the final results of the first round on Monday; competing in the second round are the Muslim Brotherhood’s Mohamed Mursi and former Mubarak premier Ahmed Shafiq. The two secured the highest votes in the first round of Egypt’s presidential election.
Gomaa denounced distributing money or goods in an attempt to influence voters’ opinions, describing it as “using people’s needs”.
