European Union Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton met on Wednesday with Amr Moussa, head of Egypt's 50-member constitution drafting committee, to discuss the country's latest political developments, reported the state-owned news agency. 

Ashton, who arrived in Cairo on Tuesday, is also scheduled to meet with government leaders including interim President Adli Mansour and army chief General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi as well as with Muslim Brotherhood politicians .

"Her visit comes to explore the possibilities for a return to reconciliation in which all sides can participate," a European diplomatic source told Reuters on Tuesday.

The EU top diplomat visited Egypt in July and met with deposed Islamist President Mohamed Mursi in his detention for two hours.
