Security bodies on Thursday arrested a chief perpetrator in last Sunday's Cathedral violence which left two people dead and scores injured, a senior security source said.
Legal procedures are being taken against the accused, the state news agency reported the source as saying.
Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim had ordered the formation of a search team to arrest perpetrators in the cathedral's clashes.
Clashes had broke out last Sunday in Cairo's Ramses Street outside the Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in Abbasiya during a funeral for Copts who were killed last weekend in sectarian violence.
