Hundreds of supporters of deposed Islamist President Mohamed Mursi staged protests outside the High Court in Cairo's downtown on Monday against what they described as the "fabrication and politicisation" of lawsuits.

The protesters carried pictures of Mursi and chanted for his legitimacy as a president and against the army’s leader.

The Mursi loyalists also demanded his immediate release.

For its part, the security forces imposed a security cordon around the court, deploying around a thousand central security soldiers, and stepped up their security presence in front of the prosecutor-general's office.
