CAIRO, November 18 (Aswat Masriya) - At least 26 people died on Monday in Egypt's train accident near Cairo, according to the latest official accounts by the Paramedics Authority.

Around 28 people were injured when a train crashed into a pick-up truck and a minibus at a crossing in Dahshour, located in the outskirts of Cairo.

The wounded people were transferred to hospitals for immediate treatment.

Train accidents are recurring in Egypt as road safety and railway maintenance have not been modernised in years.

Around 50 people, including children, died last year in a similar accident when a train crashed into a bus on a crossing in Assuit, south to Cairo.

Interim Prime Minister Hazem Beblawi announced there are ongoing plans to improve transportation with the worth of 26.9 billion Egyptian pounds.
