A group of students from the American University in Cairo (AUC) organized an open-ended strike at the university's campus in new Cairo on Thursday.

The students blocked four gates disallowing vehicles, students, faculty and staff, from entering the campus in protest against the hike in tuition fees.

The university’s administration insisted that while freedom of expression is allowed, hindering university activities is a violation that will not be tolerated.
