Police arrest eight suspects in Sinai

Security forces arrested eight suspects, four of whom are Palestinians, in ongoing operations in North Sinai on Sunday.

One Palestinian was arrested at al-Midan security checkpoint north of Arish while three others were arrested at al-Mahager checkpoint.

Two Egyptians were also arrested al-Mahager checkpoint and two others in al-Salam neighborhood.

Investigations were launched to uncover the suspects' link to several incidents in Sinai.

In a separate incident, armed men opened fire on al-Safa checkpoint south of Arish on Sunday evening.

Unknown assailants driving a SUV shot at security personnel at the checkpoint, prompting security forces to engage with them, eye witnesses reported. 

The Armed Forces recently arrested 203 terrorist elements in Sinai and killed 78, some of whom were non-Egyptians, a military spokesman said on Saturday.
