CAIRO, July 24 (Aswat Masriya) - At least 37 passengers of the Nile river ferry which capsized following a collision with a barge were pronounced dead, a security source said on Friday.

Wednesday's accident occurred when "a barge collided" with the ferryboat in Giza, "shattering" the latter, the Interior Ministry said in a statement on its official Facebook page.

The victims' bodies resurfaced three days after the accident, a medical source at the ambulance authority said. The majority of the bodies belonged to children aged 4 to 14, Water Surface Authority Director Wael al-Sharkawy said.

Earlier today, eleven bodies were recovered, raising the official death toll to 29, the Health Ministry announced.

The Interior Ministry attributed the accident to captain of the barge, who was arrested alongside his assistant.

In March, a private company bus carrying workers fell off the ring road and into a canal branching from the Nile river, leaving a dozen dead.
