GHARBIYA, Oct 25 (Aswat Masriya) – An explosion in the vicinity of a security centre in Gharbiya injured one of two assailants targeting the centre, the ministry of interior said.
The ministry said in a press statement that security forces guarding the Kafr El Zayat police centre saw two men drop a "black bag" near the centre. Security forces tried to stop one of the men; he was arrested after an explosive device in his possession went off.
The other assailant was able to flee the scene, the ministry said.
It added that the dropped bag contained an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) which was dismantled by explosives experts.
The arrested assailant was injured and taken to hospital. The ministry of interior identified him as an interning doctor at the Tanta University Hospital, adding that he is a member of the Muslim Brotherhood organisation.
Egypt listed the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organisation last December.
Authorities continuously link the organisation with blasts and militant attacks which have been targeting security forces since the ouster of Islamist President and Brotherhood member Mohamed Mursi in July 2013.
